ATLANTA — Several sets of car keys were stolen from a valet lot in Atlanta, but the thieves made off with more than just the victims’ cars.
It happened at the popular Murphy’s restaurant in Atlanta’s Virginia Highland neighborhood.
According to Atlanta police, someone took three sets of keys from an unlocked valet lock box and then drove a 2010 Mercedes and 2010 Audi off the lot.
Channel 2’s Erica Byfield obtained a copy of the police report that stated the owner of the Mercedes had his dead father’s ashes in the car. Police told Channel 2 that the man’s father died the week before in a car accident and that he had planned on scattering his father’s ashes the next day.
Byfield reached out to all three victims on Monday.
One man told her off camera that the cars were sitting in front of the restaurant.
“It’s pretty brazen to go after them in the view of everyone,” said Atlantan Madison Burnett.
“I think you can get away with bold acts all the time if you act like you know what you are doing,” said Atlanta resident Susan Willson.
Byfield spoke to the owner of the valet company, Pro Park, off camera.
Tim Burns said his insurance will cover costs of the stolen cars and replacing all the victims’ keys.
