Houma, La. — Louisiana state troopers arrested two drivers in connection with a fatal car accident in Terrebonne Parish early Saturday morning.
Around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, troopers from State Police Troop C were called to investigate the crash along LA Highway 182 in Houma.
Police reported that a 1991 Nissan Maxima was heading east on LA 182 when the driver, Wilbur Macias-Mercado, 41, of Houma, attempted to make a left turn into the parking lot of a local bar.
Macias-Mercado allegedly turned into the path of a 2004 Cadillac CTS traveling westbound along the highway.
The Cadillac was being driven by Kyle Naquin, 22, of Bourg. The Cadillac struck the Maxima on the right side and spun the Maxima into the parking lot, where it hit another parked car.
The female passenger in the Maxima was killed. She is identified as Rosa Benlavida, of Houma.
Police believe both drivers were intoxicated at the time.
Macias-Mercado was found to have a blood alcohol level of more than double the legal limit. He was arrested and booked with vehicular homicide, failure to yield and not having a driver’s license.
Naquin was also found to be driving drunk and was arrested for DWI and driving under suspension.
