SMYRNA, Ga. — The owners of a Cobb County bakery reopened at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday – just 15 hours after a car slammed into it.
The crash happened at McEntyre’s Bakery in Smyrna on Concord Road on Monday.
Surveillance cameras captured the crash on video, and it sounded like an explosion.
“We got a call saying there was a car inside our bakery,” said owner Ryan McEntyre.
“At first I thought, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me. A car. An actual car is inside our bakery?’ And all I could think about was we just had to get here,” said owner Joy McEntyre.
Joy McEntyre said when she arrived, it looked like a bomb went off.
“You walk up and everything was just in shambles. All the canning stuff, all the candles, all the furniture…everything was just pushed up to the front,” said Joy McEntyre.
But family, friends and employees came together and immediately began repairing the 4th generation Smyrna business.
“We’re all about family, all about sticking together,” said Joy McEntyre.
The McEntyres said they are thankful they are closed on Mondays.
“If we had been open, this would have been devastating. There’s no doubt in my mind that someone would’ve been seriously, seriously injured,” said Ryan McEntyre.
Channel 2 Action News reporter Kerry Kavanaugh has called police to find out what caused the crash.
