Bloomfield Hills Car Accident Lawyer Says Drunk Driving Crackdown Reveals … – Midland Daily News

Thomas L. Stroble of The Stroble Law Firm, P.C., reacts to prevalence of ‘High BAC’ charges among drivers arrested for OWI in statewide holiday crackdown.

Bloomfield Hills, MI (PRWEB) August 09, 2012

Bloomfield Hills car accident lawyer Thomas L. Stroble said today that a number of highly intoxicated drivers arrested over the July Fourth holiday in Michigan points to a great risk on the state’s roads.

“We congratulate police across the state for the work they’ve done to take drunk drivers off of Michigan roads, but the fact that many of those arrested for OWI had a BAC of 0.17 or more is troubling, to say the least,” said Stroble of the Bloomfield Hills personal injury firm, The Stroble Law Firm, P.C.

“It’s undeniable, given the results of the statewide holiday drunk driving crackdown, that driving while intoxicated remains a serious threat on Michigan roads,” Stroble said.

The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning recently announced that police in 26 counties arrested 126 drunk drivers during a statewide crackdown over the July 4 holiday period. Twenty-three drivers, or 18.25 percent, had blood-alcohol content (BAC) measuring 0.17 percent or higher, the Detroit News said.

Drivers with 0.17 percent or higher BAC in Michigan are subject to what’s commonly referred to as a “High BAC” charge, or “Super Drunk Driving.” This portion of the OWI Law, adopted in 2010, includes stronger penalties upon conviction than a guilty verdict in an OWI case with lower BAC.

Michigan drivers can also be charged with OWI if alcohol or drugs in their body substantially affects their ability to operate a motor vehicle safely.

The legal limit for driving after drinking in Michigan and all U.S. states is 0.08 BAC.

“A driver’s impairment increases exponentially as their BAC rises beyond 0.10 and toward 0.17,” Stroble said. “To describe driving with a 0.17 BAC as ‘reckless’ is an understatement.”

Stroble, whose firm’s Bloomfield Hills car accident lawyers assist clients in Oakland County and across Michigan, said anyone injured in a car crash blamed on a drunk driver should contact an experienced car accident attorney. The Stroble Law Firm obtains compensation for clients’ losses in car accidents caused by drunk drivers through personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits.

“While an OWI conviction or surely a High BAC conviction helps a case against a drunk driver, it is not necessary in order to obtain compensation for deserving accident victims,” Stroble said.

“We stand up for people who have been harmed by other drivers, and there are various ways to demonstrate a driver’s negligence and recklessness,” the veteran Bloomfield Hills personal injury attorney continued. “And as we fight for you in a drunk-driving case, we are doing what we can to fight drunk driving in Michigan.”
