GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Two people were killed in head-on collision that caused traffic gridlock southwest of Lawrenceville on Monday morning.

Police shut down Highway 29 at Patterson Road while they worked to cut through two vehicles and free the drivers.

Accident investigators told Channel 2’s Kerry Kavanaugh the driver of a Toyota Corolla was speeding and crossed into traffic.They identified that driver as Dafney Perez, 22, of Lawrenceville.

The car hit by Perez’s Toyota was driven by Samnang Chea, 68, of Lawrenceville who also died at the scene.Police said it appeared Perez had been drinking, and neither driver was wearing a seat belt.
