Tazed Teen Hits Officer Head-On During Chase

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A chase through two metro Atlanta counties ended Thursday morning when a teenage driver collided head-on with a police cruiser, authorities said.

Police said Adam Sides, 19, led officers on a 3-mile chase from Cherokee County to Cobb County.

Officers told Channel 2’s Kerry Kavanaugh that Sides fled a Woodstock apartment complex while they investigated suspected drug and alcohol activity.

Sides tried to run from officers, who used a taser, but Sides managed to get into a vehicle and drive away, police said.

“We had one officer sustain a minor injury to a foot after he (Sides) ran over the officer’s foot when he was attempting to exit the apartment complex,” said Woodstock Police Officer Brittany Duncan.

Police said they pursued Sides to Jamerson Road and Victorian Court where his convertible slammed into a police cruiser.

“It appeared he was making a left turn but, in fact, was making a U-turn going about 15 miles per hour and collided head-on with one of our officers,” said Duncan.

Police told Kavanaugh they pulled Sides from his car and discovered a gallon jug of alcohol.

Sides now faces nearly a dozen charges including DUI, eluding, reckless driving and two counts of aggravated assault of a police officer. Police also arrested five individuals from the apartment complex and charged them with underage possession of alcohol.

Duncan said both officers involved only suffered minor injuries.
