ATLANTA — A man who tried to rob a car wash in northeast Atlanta died after he was detained by employees, police said.
Officers said the man walked into the Cactus Car Wash at the intersection of Ponce de Leon and Glen Iris roads around 10:15 a.m.
The man was armed with pepper spray and confronted the car wash bookkeeper, according to police.
Several employees saw the attempted robbery and chased down the man, jumping on him and sitting on him until police could arrive, according to Channel 2’s Jodie Fleischer at the scene.
While employees held the robbery suspect, he started to have medical problems, employees said. Paramedics took the man to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died, according to police.
Officers were questioning car wash employees, according to Fleischer. Officials were not sure what led to the man’s death.
