Share the Season: Car accident left parents injured, without paychecks – Kansas.com

Posted by:

Share the Season is an annual campaign that offers one-time aid to people affected by unforeseen hardships. The people are not identified to protect their privacy.

The family was involved in a car accident that left the parents off work and without paychecks for several weeks.

It totaled their car.

“A truck cutting across two lanes of traffic hit us head on,” the woman wrote on her application to Share the Season.

Her husband had injuries on his shoulder, arm and neck.

Her knee was damaged – cartilage was chipped off, ligaments were torn and a blood clot formed.

Their two children, a 13-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old son, were not injured.

The family so needed money, the woman begged doctors to let her return to work before she had healed.

She faces knee surgery.

“We have used up any money we had paying utilities and food right before the accident happened,” she wrote. “Now the bills are once again due and coming in with no way to pay them due to being off of work with no pay … there is barely any food left in the house … there is barely any gas left in the car in order to make it through.”

The woman also wrote on the application, “We have not asked for help before … we pride ourselves in being self sufficient. … Being able bodied and capable of working, we wanted our children to always see that if you work hard, things can get accomplished.”

So far, Share the Season has raised $ 73,702.
