Plainfield Police on Friday responded to a pair of car accidents that occurred within minutes of each other and left a Putnam man hospitalized.

Authorities said Jason T. Mistark, 29, was traveling east on Ward Avenue when his vehicle veered off the road and struck two large trees and a road sign.

The impact splintered both trees in half, and Mistark was treated at the scene for back and neck injuries before being transported to The William W. Backus Hospital.

Minutes before, police said a two-car accident happened at the intersection of East Main Street and Green Hollow Road in the Central Village part of town.

Witnesses reported a large, red-colored vehicle striking another vehicle that was attempting to turn left onto Green Hollow Road.

According to police, the red-colored vehicle fled the scene. Anybody with information is asked to call Plainfield Police at (860) 564-0804, or the department’s anonymous tip line at (860) 564-7065.
