ATLANTA — A newlywed was killed in a crash on a southwest Atlanta interstate on Easter Sunday, police said.
The crash happened on Interstate 285 near Martin Luther King Boulevard. Atlanta police said tractor-trailer driver Jack Parsons was making a turn when he clipped a Nissan carrying 21-year-old Danielle Holly and her husband.
“It’s my understanding that the tractor-trailer was trying to get over and did not see that Nissan in their blind spot,” Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones told Channel 2’s George Howell.
The Nissan flipped on its side and Holly was killed, Jones said. Her husband was hospitalized for treatment of facial injuries.
Parsons faces second-degree vehicular homicide and improper lane change charges.
The interstate was shut down for hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
Police said it was a deadly reminder of the danger while driving during busy holidays.
“Be mindful anytime you are driving, especially when you are trying to get over. Check all your mirrors,” Jones said.
