A 17-year-old Homewood girl was killed late Saturday night in a car wreck in Hoover, said Bill Yates, deputy coroner with the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
Georgia Carolyn Rose Richards was killed in the crash about 11:45 p.m. in the 2200 block of Rocky Ridge Road, Yates said.
Richards was the lone occupant of the Saturn Ion, according to Yates and Hoover police.
Richards was traveling east bound on Rocky Ridge Road following friends in a car ahead of her when she tried to pass them, Yates said. Her car left the road, struck a steel utility pole, overturned and went down an embankment, he said.
The friends in the car ahead stopped and called for help, Yates said.
Richards was declared dead at the scene, Yates said.
