JACKSON, Miss. — A Georgia woman was killed and her sister was injured when an 18-wheeler crashed in Rankin County on Monday, Pearl police said.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, Suzanne Sonier, of Adairsville, Ga., was killed in the crash, police said.Sonier’s sister, Terri Mitchell, of Rainburne, Ala., was listed in critical condition at a local hospital on Tuesday, police said. She was the passenger in the 18-wheeler that overturned at about 3:30 a.m. on Interstate 20 at Airport Road, police said.
Two dogs were inside the semitrailer’s cab at the time of the crash, said Debra Boswell of the Mississippi Animal Rescue League. One dog was killed, but the other dog, a poodle, was uninjured.
The family of the crash victims picked up the uninjured dog on Tuesday, Boswell said.The cause of the crash is still under investigation, police said. Sonier was a driver for R.E. Garrison Trucking Company, police said.
