Man dies in single car accident

Posted by:

A Galt man was killed after a single car accident on Wednesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Dale Long, 72, was driving a Honda westbound on Kettleman Lane, west of Tretheway Rd. at a normal rate of speed. For an unknown reason, Long turned or allowed the car to turn to the left and move off the road, officers said. Long drove across the dirt shoulder south of the road and collided with a large tree.

He was transported first to Lodi Memorial Hospital for his injuries, then was transported to UC Davis Medical Center for further treatment. Long then succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

He was wearing a seatbelt during the crash, and alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in the accident. Highway patrol officials said there is a possibility Long was suffering from a medical condition at the time of the collision, but it is not yet clear.

The accident is still under investigation.
