Atlanta police officers investigating an overnight car wreck found the driver mortally wounded by a gunshot to the chest.

The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. Monday on Beckwith Street in southwest Atlanta.

Channel 2 Action News reported that when officers arrived to investigate a Dodge Neon that had run off the road and slammed into a house, they discovered that the driver had been shot.

The man, identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office as Calvin Chaney, 25, of Atlanta, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“We haven’t been able to locate any witnesses as to what happened, so we really don’t know what happened,” Atlanta police Lt. Paul Guerrucci told Channel 2.
