DEMOREST – Former Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin has been hospitalized at Habersham Medical Center in North Georgia after a car wreck.

Londa Irvin Wilson, the ex-commissioner’s daughter, said Wednesday her 81-year-old father was making good progress since the accident last Thursday. Irvin suffered cracked ribs.

She said Irvin, who retired from the post last year, was driving alone when he was involved in a two-car wreck in Toccoa.

Irvin was cited for failure to yield, according to a police report. Toccoa police say Irvin pulled out in front of another car which then struck his 2007 Volvo in the front driver’s side
