A two-car accident near the UND campus Wednesday left one car on fire and injured a driver.

Officers went to the scene at about 7:40 a.m.

According to police, a 2002 Volkswagen Passat driven by Amber Gutting, 19, of Grand Forks was southbound on North 42nd Street and was turning east onto University Avenue when it slid on the ice and into the path of a northbound 1999 Dodge Stratus driven by Joseph Hart, 26, of East Grand Forks.

Both cars came to rest in the northeast corner of the intersection and the Stratus started on fire, police said. Hart was able to get out and the Grand Forks Fire Department extinguished the fire. Both cars were towed from the scene.

Hart got a ticket for not having liability insurance. Gutting got a ticket for not yielding the right of way. She was taken to Altru Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, police said.
