Blazers Insider: Another car accident, another big game for LaMarcus Aldridge –

blazers vs. magic.zipIn the two games in which LaMarcus Aldridge has been involved in a pregame car accident, he is averaging 28 points, 9.5 rebounds and five assists. The Blazers are 2-0 in those games, including Monday’s 125-119 overtime victory over Orlando.

These days, it seems, nothing can stop LaMarcus Aldridge.

Not even a car accident on his way to playing in the Trail Blazers game.

For the second time in the last 11 months, Aldridge on Monday was involved in a car accident on his way to the Blazers game, and for the second time, he played like nothing was awry.

Aldridge had 27 points, 10 rebounds and five assists to help the Blazers beat Orlando 125-119 in overtime, even though much of his pregame was spent dealing with insurance paperwork and frayed nerves from a fender bender two blocks from the Rose Garden arena.

Last February, not far from Monday’s accident site, a car changed lanes and became collided with Aldridge’s 2009 Ferrari. The two cars became interlocked, and Aldridge’s prized possession ended up beached on the curb.

“I don’t know what it is, I keep getting hit by people,’’ Aldridge said chuckling. “I was like: ‘Not again.’ But this time it wasn’t as bad.’’

On Monday, Aldridge said he was in his 2013 Mercedes Benz – a car he purchased less than a week ago. “I don’t even have plates on it yet,’’ Aldridge said.

He was turning left on Broadway when a car coming eastbound off the Broadway Bridge made a right turn. Aldridge said he had a green arrow, but the eastbound car did not stop.

“The arrow was green, I had a whole lot of time – it wasn’t like I was trying to go fast through the light,’’ Aldridge said. “I saw this car pulling up to turn right and I know she should have seen me, but he didn’t stop. My car has those Benz lights, which are really bright, and he said he didn’t see me. He was an older guy – I don’t know if he should be driving right now. I was right in front of him and he said he didn’t see me. So that’s scary.’’

Aldridge said when it became apparent he was going to be hit in the passenger side door, he sped up to try and avoid the collison, but the other car still clipped his back end.

Last February, Aldridge was shaken by his accident, the first he had ever been in. Before that game, he admitted that it was tough for him to focus and prepare for the game. It wasn’t until he was introduced and he said a prayer to himself that he was able to let the accident go. In that game, a 117-97 victory against Denver, Aldridge had 29 points, 9 rebounds and five assists while hitting 13-of-18 shots.

His said his past accident helped prepare him for Monday’s incident.

“This time, I didn’t let it get to me as much,’’ Aldridge said. “I think I was just kind of shaken up in having to do it over again, and have to be quick and get here on time, but other than that, I was OK.’’

As for his cars?

His 2013 Benz is a special edition because it comes with a chocolate mocha paint.

“It’s the first one they made in that color,’’ Aldridge said. “That’s why I got it. Getting it repainted will be tough.’’

Judging from his last accident, the Benz might have seen it’s last ride to the Rose Garden. Aldridge said once his 2009 black Ferrari got back from the body shop, he sold it.

“It’s like your girlfriend cheating on you,’’ Aldridge said of his decision to sell the Ferrari. “After she cheats, you don’t want her anymore. So I got rid of it.’’

The biggest damage, however, could be to the opponent on nights Aldridge is hit. In the two games, Aldridge is now averaging 28.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists while hitting 35-of-50 shots (70 percent).

“Both times I have gotten hit, I was here early – like 30 minutes early – and I never get here that early,’’ Aldridge said. “And both times, it was somebody who works here that hit me. I don’t know what it is.’’
